Introducing The Campaign For The Siegman International Summer School on Lasers

The OSA Foundation is proud to introduce a fundraising campaign for The Siegman International Summer School on Lasers, named in honor of Anthony E. Siegman, OSA Past President, and founding board member of the OSA Foundation.

Background on the 2011 Summer School

In 2011, Dr. Siegman served on the organizing committee for OSA's first summer school program - International Summer Session on Lasers and Their Applications. The event was co-sponsored by the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP), and was a great success with 100 students representing 13 different countries arriving at the CIOMP campus for a week long program of lectures, networking opportunities, poster presentations and research sharing. The presentations from the 2011 Summer Session are now available free of charge from the OSA Media Library. You can also view event photos and download the presentation slides (in PDF form). The student's presentation papers are available in Optics InfoBase

This 2011 program was a tremendous success, largely due to Dr. Siegman's personal involvement--- as it turned out this was his last OSA volunteer activity. The participants, along with the presenters, gave the highest evaluation ratings to the program and strongly encouraged OSA to continue the program for several more years.

Help Fund the Endowment

The OSA Foundation is delighted to carry on Dr. Siegman's work by launching a campaign to permanently fund The Siegman International Summer School on Lasers in his honor.  We believe the school is a fitting way to honor both the tremendous contributions Dr. Siegman made to the scientific community and his passion for teaching.

If you would like to make a donation via wire transfer, please contact OSAF staff for the wire instructions.
