We support recognitions of achievement in the field of optics through the presentation of OSA Awards and Honors.
Featured Fundraising Campaigns:
Michael S. Feld Biophotonics Award and Fundraising Campaign Recognizes individuals for their innovative and influential contributions to the field of biophotonics, regardless of their career stage.
Robert E. Hopkins Leadership Award Endowment In recognition of Dr. Hopkins’ many contributions to the field and the lasting and positive impact he made through his life-long work with colleagues and the community at large, this campaign seeks to name the OSA Leadership Award in his memory.
Distinguished Service Award Established by the Board of Directors in 1973, this award is presented to individuals who, over an extended period of time, have served the Optical Society in an outstanding way, especially through volunteer participation in its management, operation or planning in such ways as editorship of a periodical, organization of meetings, or other service to the Society.
Contributions toward the endowment of an individual award or the General Awards Fund are encouraged. Please visit our list of Current Campaigns to support an existing honor, or contact our staff to learn more about establishing a new program.
Working with the OSA Awards Committee we have established three new awards:
Joseph W. Goodman Book Writing Award Recognizing authorship of an outstanding book in the field of optics and photonics, published in the last six years, that has contributed significantly to research, teaching, or the optics and photonics industry (co-sponsored with SPIE).
Emmett N. Leith Medal Recognizing seminal contributions to the field of optical information processing.
Herbert Walther Award Recognizing distinguished contributions in quantum optics and atomic physics as well as leadership in the international scientific community (co-sponsored with Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG)).
