Sponsorship & Naming Opportunities

Sponsorships and named programs can be tailored to meet your philanthropic interests and marketing  goals. We offer a great variety programs that make
a lasting difference to students, educators and scientists around the world.

The following are examples of available opportunities, but we welcome new ideas! Please contact our staff to discuss the opportunity that is right for you.

Developing Nation Outreach Naming Opportunities

Youth Education

Science Fairs/Competitions - Support of optics-specific activities at the local,
regional, national or international level

  • Sponsorship of optics-specific activities at an established event, e.g., the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair
    or AIP Physics Olympiad
  • Endow an annual fund that awards grants to science fair and competition organizers
  • Endow a “Science Fair & Competition” activity grant in support of OSA Student Chapters and Local Sections outreach efforts

Resource Materials  - Support the development, purchase and distribution of optics educational materials.

  • Endow a fund that directs support to specific regions or student/educator groups
  • Provide support for the development of topic-specific educational materials, e.g., a Vision & Color Discovery Kit.

Pre-College Educators - Funding to enrich the optics teaching skills of educators.

  • Support optics-related training components of existing programs, e.g., PHOTON Problem Based Learning
  • Endow a grant program for which educators and/or training program organizers may apply for support
  • Endow OSA-hosted teacher training events, e.g., Educator’s Day
  • Establish an award in recognition of an outstanding physics/optics educator. Alternatively, a physic/optics award could be
established in partnership with an existing award program, e.g., the National Science Teachers Association

University Students & Post Graduates

Scholarships - Provide academic, travel or education-related expense subsidies to college-level physics/optics students. Support can
be directed to a specific institution, region, technical area or student community.

Travel Grants - Support students traveling to technical meetings or academic-related programs. Grants can be awarded for a
specific meeting, e.g., Frontiers in Optics, or students could apply for funding for the meeting of their choice.

Competitions - Host student paper competitions at OSA-hosted technical meetings or conferences. Programs can support a specific meeting and/or topic area.

Fellowships - Funding of student and/or post-graduate participation in physics/optics-related fellowship programs. Examples of fellowship program partners include: The Hertz Foundation, The National Academies of Science. Alternatively, fellowships could be established in partnership with a corporation or university.

Adopt an OSA Student Chapter - OSA has a growing base of Student Chapters associated with leading universities in over 45 countries. Giving options include subsidizing  the start-up and activity grant funding costs for a single chapter or for the Chapters in a region, as well providing ongoing support for the travel and related expenses for Chapter representatives to participate in meetings/conferences.

Developing Nation Outreach

International Student Programming - Foster cultural and academic exchanges by funding 3rd-4th year U.S. graduate students’ language/cultural training and travel to a developing nation. These students would participate in a developing nation-based academic optics program for a 3-4 week period. Student travelers would have the opportunity to present a report on their experiences during an OSA-hosted event.

Naming Opportunities

  • Awards and medals
  • Dedication in the OSA headquarters building, e.g., conference room, or lobby area
  • Endowing an OSA staff position/function
  • Funding a memorial event at an OSA-hosted meeting
