Building on the success of our April 2010 workshops on the Galileoscope, the OSAF conducted 26 interactive presentations at six Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, magnet schools. OSA members Kathleen Adelsberger, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Rochester, USA, and Yasaman Soudagar, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Toronto, Canada, used materials from the Optics Suitcase to teach over 500 students about light and optics. The demonstrations and hands-on activities included topics such as polarization, diffraction and selective reflection. To ensure the lessons did not end in the classroom, each student was able to take home the experiments to share with family and friends. This program was made possible through our partnership with the Greater Milwaukee Foundation. |
